Scotland secured a dramatic and historic 4-2 win against Denmark in a winner-takes-all match to automatically qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, their first appearance since 1998.
Scotland Triumphs
- Sensational Start: Our team took an early lead with a spectacular Scott McTominay overhead kick in the 3rd minute.
- Twists and Turns: Denmark equalised through a Rasmus Højlund penalty. Denmark was then reduced to 10 men when Rasmus Kristensen received a red card.
- Late Drama: Scotland twice took the lead again via Lawrence Shankland, but Denmark quickly levelled each time (the second by Patrick Dorgu) to make it 2-2 as the match entered stoppage time, a score that would have sent Denmark to the World Cup.
- Stoppage-Time Stunners: Kieran Tierney fired a superb long-range strike to make it 3-2 in added time. Moments later, Kenny McLean sealed the victory and World Cup spot with an audacious lob from the halfway line over a stranded Danish goalkeeper, Kasper Schmeichel, for the 4-2 final score.
The atmosphere at Hampden Park was euphoric as Scotland ended a 28-year wait for a men’s World Cup qualification.
